Out of The Gorge & Into The Rest Area

Home, Sweet, Home

The Sand Hill Cottages were a nice, old fashioned "auto court" style getaway in Carson, WA run by Jay and Karen, complete with chickens and fully authentic buildings.  Sitting on the front porch under tall pines was a nice way to unwind.

Tunnels!

Today, was a more realistic ride, as I scaled back to forty miles going from Carson, WA to The Dalles, OR.
Heat was still an issue despite a 6:30AM departure.
The landscape changed dramatically from green forested mountains to drier, rocky terrain over the span of ten miles, and by The Dalles everything was a golden brown

My good friends Brian and Christine who move to Oregon last year from Huntington Beach, CA were nice enough to invite me to visit them in Redmond, OR.  So Christine "rescued" me in The Dalles and I'll be resting tomorrow and exploring alternative plans.

The forecasts for the next few days are in the hundreds, and riding across western OR/WA would not be wise under these conditions as there are long stretches with no services.  So, I may have to "fast forward" to cooler, safer climates.  Stay tuned!
