From Corn To Cattails

Yesterday I noticed it was a bit more humid, and today even more so as I went through several "swamps" and saw many lakes as I fled the heat (104, 102, 103, & 97 today in the past four cities).

Eastern North Dakota

Corn fields are still prevalent, but they are slowly giving way to Cattails.  Lots of cattails.

Remembers those "lost" pelicans way back in Montana?  As it turns out, maybe they weren't so lost after all.  After seeing a trio of pelicans flying over a lake today, and then seeing a sign with what definitely looked like pelicans on it, I began to wonder.

Sign Near Medina ND With Pelicans

Well, as it turns out, there are White Pelicans that migrate to a lake near Medina.  By the thousands.  I only saw three, but apparently one lake is popular with them, and they come in groves, then head south in September.

After riding in the sun for several hours today, this sign made me delusional and afraid I might have made wrong turn.  Cleveland!?

Cleveland, ND!

And lastly, what would a blog post from North Dakota be without another oversized roadside animal?  This time it's "Dakota Thunder", the world's largest buffalo!

  2. By the way, be careful in Fargo. Seen in the movies about a few of the locals being a bit "off".

  3. The criminals from Fargo were Minnesotans :)
